Our Gardeners Blog for August

With the Autumn season on the horizon now is the time for gardeners to start thinking about where they will be planting trees in their garden. At Compton Acres, we like to take time during August to look at our landscape and plan where we will be planting new trees and shrubs. This is particularly important in our Japanese Garden, which requires regular maintenance to uphold the spectacular Autumn foliage colours for which it is famed.

If you want to recreate the essence of our Japanese Garden, find a suitable spot to plant out some Japanese Maple trees (Acer palmatum). These grow extremely slowly and are perfect for smaller gardens, especially when grown in large containers. Find a sheltered position in your garden and make sure you plant your Japanese Maples in a partially shaded area.

By planning ahead, you can begin to enjoy the Japanese Maple’s fiery red, orange and yellow foliage in your garden, later in the year. We also have several varieties, featured in our Japanese Garden, for sale in our Plant Centre. Our expert growers and gardeners are also on hand to give you growing advice, so upon your next visit don’t hesitate to ask.

As we wait for the skies to clear, think carefully as pre-planning is the key to creating a truly exceptional garden.

Happy gardening!
