Opening and Closing Times

Is Compton Acres open at weekends and on Bank Holidays?

Yes. Compton Acres is open seven days a week, including weekends and Bank Holidays. We are closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

Can the gardens close in extreme weather?

Yes. In severe weather conditions, including heavy rain, snow or ice, the gardens may close for safety reasons. Please check the website or social channels for the latest updates, or call the team before travelling. +44 (0)1202 700 778

What time do the gardens open and close?

Garden opening times vary by season. Please see the Opening times, tickets, pricing and membership page for current hours.

What time does the Café open and close?

The Café is open daily from 9.00 am. Closing times and last orders are listed on the Opening times, tickets, pricing and membership page.

Tickets and Entry

Do I need to pre-book garden tickets?

No. Pre-booking is not required for standard garden entry.

How much are tickets?

Do I need a garden ticket to use the Café?

No. The Café and Tea Rooms and all shops are open to all visitors, including non-ticket holders.

Access and Facilities

Are the gardens wheelchair accessible?

Many areas are accessible, with paths and ramps in place. Some sections are steep and may require assistance. A wheelchair map is available from the Ticket Office. Please note there are no wheelchairs available for hire on-site.

Are concession tickets available?

Yes. Concession rates are available for eligible visitors. Please see the tickets page for current pricing.

Is there seating in the gardens?

Yes. Seating is available throughout the principal garden areas.

Can I picnic in the gardens?

Yes. Visitors are welcome to picnic. Please use the spaces respectfully and take all litter away.

Are there toilets and baby changing facilities?

Yes. Facilities are available in the Café and Tea Rooms. Accessible toilets are also available near Harbour View and at the Ticket Office.

Is parking available?

Yes. Free parking is available on site. Coach drop-off and pick-up space is also available.

Dogs, Photography and On-site Guidance

Are dogs allowed?

Yes. Well-behaved dogs are welcome in the gardens on a lead and in most areas of the café. Retractable leads are not permitted.

Can I take photographs?

Yes. Personal photography is welcome. Professional and group shoots require prior written approval.

Are koi carp still in the ponds?

Yes. Koi carp are in the ponds year-round, though visibility can vary with temperature and water conditions.

Can I ask the gardening team questions during my visit?

Yes. The gardening team is happy to help with questions where possible. Alternatively, you can consider booking a Special Guided Tour for an in-depth, interactive tour with an experienced gardener.

Are bicycles, scooters or tricycles allowed in the gardens?

No. Wheeled access is limited to pushchairs and wheelchairs. Bicycles may be left in the car park at the owner’s risk.

Functions & Events Enquiries

Can I host a small private gathering in the Café?

The Café can offer a semi-private area for up to 20 guests. All event and function enquiries should be directed to The Italian Villa team first.
