The Heather Garden
The Heather Garden occupies a site that once housed Mr Simpson’s notable cactus and succulent collection, which was lost during the war years. Right before entering the heather garden from the sculpture walk link, we still present a small selection of succulents, such as, Aeonium, Agave, and Aloe.

Year-Round Heathers and Textures
Today, hundreds of winter and summer flowering heathers are planted among rocky outcrops, creating strong year-round colour and texture. On the sunny bank beyond the main garden area, a small Southern Hemisphere collection thrives in the warmer microclimate, including spring-flowering Acacia pravissima and Sophora Sun King (‘Hislop’). Winter-flowering Grevillea ‘Canberra Gem’ and Grevillea victoriae add further seasonal interest.
Recent additions include species of Cytisus and Genista for vivid colour, alongside structural grasses such as Miscanthus, Cortaderia and Stipa gigantea, which bring movement and height through the colder months.
